The clocks
moved forward an hour at the weekend, and as always, our Thursday start time
moved forward an hour. Another lovely day for golf, the members taking part in
a 4BBB Stableford. 36 members, 18 teams took part in the competition and some
remarkable scores were returned. Jim Samuel & Ian Castle, Francis Fitzpatrick &
George Dunning, Rob Woodland & Billy Chisholm all returned scores of 48 points,

Hardon & Gordon Milne were 4th with 46. Seems the good weather produces good
scores.

The day
started well but within 15 minutes the early starters were to suffer the rain
and the hail, so much so that quite a few walked in, drenched. The later
starters fared better and this was reflected in the scores. 34 members entered
today's competition. 26 completed their round. David Dalglish, with a net 71 was
today's winner on a card play off from second placed Ray Arthurs also with a net
71. Donald Edgar and Ian Castle recorded the only 2's of the day.
'We have a match against Whickham on Thursday the 24th
April, so far only 9 members have volunteered to travel and play. It would be
greatly appreciated if a few more would enter'
Monday 14th April 2008

The Mallards entertained the E.G.G.S, who happen to be the Kirkcudbright Golf
Club Seniors. On a dry sunny day with a bitterly cold wind blowing all enjoyed
the visit and the match was an honourable half.

The Mallards
sent a team to the North East to play a match at Whickham against the Whickham
Seniors. As always they were warmly welcomed by the hosts and played the match
in excellent spirits. They day started with light rain but it soon cleared into
a pleasant spring like day with plenty of sunshine. The course was in good shape
and for the first time the Mallards came away with a result, albeit a half, but
a half is a result so well done to all.
Monday 28th April 2008
Another
excellent turnout by member today. The first of the medal 'Eclectic' was played
and judging by the scores it wasn't easy today. Played from the white tees and
difficult greens scores were pretty high. Regardless Roger Rees managed a net 71
to take first prize, Tom Skead with a net 72 was runner up. Joe Donlan & John
Ross with net 74 & 75 respectively were 3rd & 4th. Allan Benson, John Ross,

Another match
day for a few members of the Mallards. Today's match was against Dalston Seniors
at home. Played in sunshine but with a gale blowing the match ended in a half.
Thursday 15th May 2008
A bright
sunny day with a cold cold gale blowing made it a difficult day for the members
playing in today's stableford competition. Never the less, Ian Castle returned a
comfortable 37 points to take top prize today, Tom Skead and Jim Lyndon were
second and third respectively with 34 points, there were no 2's today.

A pleasant
mornings golf for the Mallards, a nice change from the gales and cold. Today was
the 1st round of the Phil Harrison Trophy competition, a 36 hole competition for
the best gross and best net scores. With 31 members playing today, Roger Rees
and Tom Skead set the early pace, both returning net 69's. Roger taking 1st

Thursday 22nd May 2008
Another
pleasant day for golf well it would have been if one could take away the gale
that was blowing. 30 members turned out to play in the second round of the Phil
Harrison Trophy competition. Unfortunately the early pace setters from round one
kinda fell by the wayside, well Tom Skead did, but Roger managed to complete a
score card and his combined gross scores 74 & 83 for a total of 157 was good
enough for him to win the Scratch Trophy.
Derek Scott with a net 69 was today's individual winner, runner up was Brian
McLauchlan. Derek was also declared winner of the Phil Harrison Net Trophy, his
69 today combined with Monday's 74 gave him a net 143. So congratulations to
Roger & Derek. John Mason recorded the only 2 of the day.
Thursday 29th May 2008
Monday being
a Bank Holiday today was the first competition for a week, unfortunately quite a
few members were away playing in a local seniors open event which meant a
greatly reduced field for today's medal 'Eclectic'. Francis Fitzpatrick with a
net 70 was today's winner, runner up was Ian Melrose, Ian also recorded the only
2 of the day.
Away day Reminder - The coach will leave the golf
club at 8.30am next Wednesday 4th June.
