Monday 4th February 2008
Nice to have
a rain free days golf. The members played a 5 club alternative stableford and
considering they had a minus score for a bogie or worse there were some
excellent scores returned. Included in today's event was a hidden pairs event.
The vice captain drew pairs while the members played and combined their
respective scores.
The winner of the individual competition was Ernie Henderson with 38points,
runner up was David Blackett also with 38 points. Ernie also featured in the
pairs event with Andy McCann their 74 points combined score good enough for top
spot form Jim Cruddas and Gordon Milne with a combined score of 70 points

First of all
congratulations to the incoming Captain, Trevor Phipps, he took over the helm on
Tuesday evening at the AGM. (Will need to get an up to date photograph!!
apologies for the moment Trevor)
Back to today and spring like weather, a bit windy but very pleasant out and
virtually on the full course today. This was reflected in the scores. The best
return today was 38 points by Allan Benson, runner up was Rob Woodland with 37
points. David Dalglish was third with 35 points.
Monday 11th February 2008
An excellent turn out by members today and a very pleasant day to be playing
golf, seemed like spring had arrived early, long may it continue. Back on the
full course Francis Fitzpatrick's score of 38 points was good enough fro first
place, David Dalglish seem to be getting back to form with a fine 37 points for
runners up spot.
LATE EVENING NEWS FLASH!!!!! A little bird mentioned that Graham Orange fell
in the pond at the 12th today!!!!!!
Thursday 14th February 2008
Winter League
matches played today and quite a few members playing friendlies. It's all change
at the top to the Winter League Table, with one match to be played, the result,
will decide the final placing. A play off may be required.
Monday 18th February 2008
A bright
crisp sunny day and an excellent turn out by members who enjoyed the weather and
their golf. A lot of good scores today and a good many found their handicaps
reduced as a result of their good scores. Douglas Pringle took first prize with
40 points on a card play off from Rob Woodland also with 40 points. Ray Arthurs
popped up into third with 39 points again on a CPO.
The fixture list has been amended, Monday 10th March now a Team Stableford
Competition.
Thursday 21st February 2008
Not the
greatest of turnouts today, but hardly surprising considering the weather
forecast, as it tuned out the rain stayed away but the players had to contend
with gale force winds which made standing up, never mind scoring difficult.
Francis Fitzpatrick and Roger Rees managed a credible 33 points each, Francis
taking top spot on a card play off.

Pitch marks
on the green. A notice has been posted on the notice board about the correct way
to repair a pitch mark, please take a note of it and try to follow the advice
given. The notice is copied from the men's section web pages.
Today's stableford was played in cold blustery conditions and with the threat
of rain we were fortunate that all bar the very late starters got round dry.
Cold but dry. Sandy Thorburn won today's stableford with 39 points, Gordon Milne
was runner up with 37points.
The final match of the winter league was completed today and with the match
ending in a half it meant that Sandy Thorburn and Joe Hardon won the Winter
League. Runners up were Michael Cross and Ray Arthurs
Thursday 28th February 2008
The members enjoyed a Texas Scramble today, played in early spring like
conditions. Eleven teams entered and with winning team was that of Donald Edgar,
Roger Rees and Eddie Robson with a net 63.8, runners up were Francis
Fitzpatrick, Alan Best and Ian Melrose with a net 64.5, third place went to the
team of Brian McLauchlan, David Slater and Jim Lyndon with a net 66.2
Monday 3rd March 2008
The day
turned out to much better than anticipated, a few minutes before the first group
set of to play it was blowing a blizzard, but that was it the day stayed fine. A
good turn out by members today, a good 40 points and another win for
Francis Fitzpatrick consolidated his position at the top if the order of merit.
Tom Gordon with 37 points was runners up and a quartet of players with 33
points were the next best
Thursday 6th March 2008
A wild but
pleasant day for golf. The wind seems to blow in ones face on virtually every
hole making the course seem longer to play. This could be the reason for lower
than normal scores. Jim Lyndon with 36 Points came out on top with Ian Melrose
runner up with 35 points and David Dalglish with 34 points
With just one round left to play in the order of merit it could be a close
finish between Francis Fitzpatrick and Roger Rees
Monday 10th March 2008
Prior to the
Mallards tee off time the weather was pretty bad and there wee cries to call the
competition off. The competitions organiser declined to cancel, fortunately as
the day turn out to be very pleasant indeed. this was reflected in some very
good scoring. Playing a team stableford the tem of Francis Fitzpatrick, David
McCulloch & Cyril Hankey took the spoils on a card play off from Sandy Thorburn,
John Ross & Gordon Milne. Both team recording 99 points. Ah but had the odd putt
just fallen maybe the 100 point barrier would have been broken.
Thursday 13th March 2008
The final competition of the Winter Season, an individual stableford with a
hidden team event. The team event draw being made by the Captain while the
members were out playing. The morning started of fine and pleasant for playing
golf, but as forecast by the weather experts the rain did arrive midway through
the round for the later starters. None the less there were some excellent scores
today. Robert Waite with and excellent 43 points took the top spot today, Dave
Galloway, who seems only to play on a Thursday these days was runner up with 42
points.
Francis Fitzpatrick also with 42 points was third but it was more than
enough for him to retain his position at the top of the Snowball Order of Merit.
So it is congratulations to Francis on winning the Winter Snowball Competition
Ernie Henderson & Joe Hardon won the hidden team event with a combined 80
points.
The summer season starts on Monday with the Captains drive into office
followed by the Captain v Vice Captain Match and lunch.

Thursday 20th March 2008
The wind and
rain was a bit too much for the majority of members today, so the Texas Scramble
was cancelled. A number did brave the weather and went out and played, they were
rewarded with better weather towards the end of their round. But not a nice day
Thursday 27th March 2008
The opening
competition of the summer season, a stableford competition was the order of the
day. 30 members turned out to play today in good condition, a little cool at
time but the weather stayed fine and dry. One members certainly had a lot to
shout about today and that was Jim Samuel who returned an excellent 45 points, 8
points clear of the runner up George Dunning who returned 37 points. 3 members
with 36 points and a couple with 35 points followed up. Alan Best recorded the
only 2 of the day
